Major Lazer— “Get Free”

I’m obsessed with Major Lazer. Mostly because I heart Diplo, but watch and listen to this song and it would be difficult to not become a fan. And plus I just really, really, REALLY love Jamaica. Get Free!!

Marley…If You Don’t Know Now You Know

If you haven’t seen the new Marley documentary on Robert “Bob” Marley, what have you been doing with your life? Like seriously though, the film is so insanely inspiring and makes me miss Jamaica like crazy. Marley is the fuckin’ man. That dude seriously changed the world. The way the film is put together, the old footage, the interviews, are simply amazing. Even if you’re not into Reggae there is no way you can not get lifted up and see the world and how we treat others differently. Get it now, watch it now! http://www.bobmarley.com/marley_the_movie.php

Here’s one of my all-time fav Marley songs. It’s the original video so the video is grainy, but it’s dope! Always know, “every little ting, is gonna be alright.”

Reggae Wednesday: Tanya Stephens – “It’s A Pity”

Although I don’t agree with what Tanya is talking about here, the beat and the song is one of my faves.

Reggae Wednesday: Barrington Levy “Here I Come”

Throwback.

Reggae Wednesday: Sister Nancy “Bam Bam”

On of my all-time favorite reggae songs. Get irie.

Happy Birthday Bob Marley

Feb. 6 marks a day that should be considered a National holiday. Bob Marley was born on this day in 1945. He only would have been in his late 60s. That is crazy to think. What I would give to have seen Bob live. There is no doubt his spirit will live on eternally. Rest in peace, Bob. Thank you for all you have given the world. Hope you are smoking a fatty in Heaven. This day is for you. —TS

Day 14 of Awesome: Forward and Back in Time

I’m skipping day 13 for now because I need to get photos developed from my waterproof camera. (old school);) I’m planning on doing an entire Jamaica recap with all my videos as well and doing a super Awesome Superpost, so for the time being Day 14 of Awesome went a little something like this: The night of Day 13, being our final night in Jamaica we thought it best to send it to the moon. There was a Bonfire Party at the resort and what better way to close one of the best week’s of my life than by partying on the beach in true Jamaican fashion. It was a Wednesday and for those who know me well know I dedicate Wednesday’s as “Reggae Wednesday”, meaning basically I listen to Reggae music all day. Well, what more could I ask for than to be on the beach, in Jamaica, listening to live Reggae music on a Wednesday? I was elated.

While the night went on we met up with the English boys who we had met earlier in the week. They were on a mission to send also so we began taking shots, lots of them. Laying on the bar head back, while the bartender poured them in our mouths down a line, rum, tequila, you name it…it was go time. We went to our regular spot at the Infinity Bar after a major dance sesh on the beach to see some more music, then headed to the discotech til after 2a.m., proceeded by a Sports Bar visit for beers and a late, uh, early morning snack.

I then thought I should maybe head to my room since we were leaving for the airport in less than an hour, at 4:30a.m. I went back with the intentions of packing the rest of my things, but ended up falling asleep. I awoke to the phone ringing, with the bellman telling me our ride was there waiting. Whops. We rushed to pack our things, me obviously still wearing my outfit and still drunk. The rest of the day was basically one of the longest travel days ever with a flight to Miami, then LA, then traffic, then finally I made it to my Dad’s around 10p.m. Wow, what a day. 45 minutes of sleep can sometimes be really Awesome. —TS

Day 12 of Awesome: Just Another Day On Da Beach Mon

Here in Jamaica it’s all about chillin’ and enjoying life. When you’re living in paradise it’s practically impossible not to. For Jamaicans though, time is irrelevant, people do things as they wish and love is the cure. Awesome sometimes means taking a much needed break and today that’s exactly what I did. I soaked it all in. The surroundings, the people, the air, the joint(s). Hills and I also explored and kayaked around.

Letting go and being in the moment is often difficult to do, but when you can it is insanely Awesome. It also rained in the middle of the day as it often does in the Caribbean. A mid-day pour often cools it down and makes for many cheers and smiles. There’s something oh so magical about tropical rain. What another amazing day in paradise. Tuesday has never looked so good. —TS

Day 11: Cliff Jumping..in Jamaica

Today we thought it was about time to venture out of the resort! We wanted to see what was happening on the streets, mon. We took a little tour into Negril and did a little shopping, followed bu a cliff jumping/sunset sesh at Rick’s Cafe on the beach.

The cliff divers at Rick’s are incredible! I have a video I’ll post soon too. These dudes are handstanding at 100 feet followed by a double flip swan dive. Wtf. Hills and I jumped too, but we took the mellower route on the mini cliffs. Still Awesome. Now I can say I’ve cliff jumped in Jamaica. Yip! Turns out Monday’s aren’t so bad after all. It might have just been the best Monday ever in fact. That makes this day on the top of the Awesome list. —TS

Day 10 of Awesome: Sunday Funday…in Jamaica

How to recoup after the best birthday-day ever? Continue drinking of course. And what better place to do it? That’s right, Jamaica. Day 10 was one of rehydration. Jamosas for breakfast? Yes. Pool lounging, followed by beach nappin’, proceeded by mojitios, reading a book and watching the sunset from a hammock? Duh. I also took up the Reggae dance class today on the beach just for kicks. I learned some hip rollin’, booty shakin’, moves y’all. That’s what Sunday Funday was all about in Jamrock and it was nothing less than Awesome. —TS
