When I was in 2nd or 3rd grade, I cried until my parents bought a fake Christmas tree. We also had a can crusher that I used to happily flatten our aluminum cans so we could take them to recycle. And wherever I could I would ride my bike so I wouldn’t create carbon emissions (although I wasn’t even close to driving age). Needless to say doing my part for the environment has been ingrained in me since an early age.
Tomorrow is Earth Day. Although I wish I could participate in the many activities including parades and festivals that Denver has going on, I’ll be up in the mountains being one with nature and cheersing with a lovely mojito complete with mint and lime…in a glass that can be washed and reused of course. I wanted to post a little something to remind my darling readers how important Mother Earth is. Better yet, it’s a reminder for myself. Take five minutes a day to stop and breathe and take in the natural beauty that surrounds you. And while you may not want to give up your real Christmas tree or crush cans in your spare time, just be a little more cautious of your impact on the environment. Happy Earth Day. —TS
